Full-day tour of Istanbul’s main historical monuments. We’ll begin with an exterior view of Hagia Sophia, a masterpiece of world architecture. Built by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century AD this church is one of the marvels of world architecture. Its massive dome dominates the skyline of old Istanbul. It is famed for its mosaics, including glittering portraits of emperors and empresses.
Next, we’ll visit Topkapi Palace, the former residence of the Ottoman sultans, with its gardens and pavilions. We’ll then proceed to the Blue Mosque which owes its name to the exquisite tiles adorning its interior. Dating from the 17th century, it is the only imperial Mosque with six minarets and harmonious design. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the Roman Hippodrome, the site of ancient spectacles and chariot races held 100.000 spectators. We’ll conclude at the Grand Bazaar, one of the world’s largest covered markets. The Grand Bazaar was the commercial heart of the old city and its 4.000 shops are full of treasures – including carpets and kilims, silks, jewellery, ceramics, icons and leather goods. Transfer back to your hotel at the end of the tour.
Today visit to the Egyptian Bazaar and continue for the cruise through Bosphorus, the majestic strait that runs through Istanbul, linking Europe and Asia. From our cruise boat, we view the dramatic sights lining the Bosporus wooded shores: mosques, a bridge that for a time was the world’s longest and Rumeli Hisari, a massive fortress built by Mehmet the Conqueror in just three months as he prepared to take Istanbul. Also noteworthy on this tour are the 19thcentury mansions of the Ottoman elite and the Sultans’ fanciful gingerbread palaces and hunting lodges. Lunch at a local restaurant and we continue with a tour of the historic Fener and Balat districts, visit to the Bulgarian Church of St. Stephen and the Orthodox Patriarchate. We finish at the Pierre Loti Café viewpoint and return to the hotel.
A free day to the mythical city of Istanbul. A full day in the ancient city with countless elegant minarets and mosques. The mix of East and West has resulted in some of the most impressive architectural monuments worldwide as Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace.
Another important thing to experience in Istanbul is to be lost in the Grand Bazaar, one of the largest markets in the world of its kind, where the colours and smells of the mountains of spices, colourful clothes and silver jewellery and intoxicate our hours. Haggling is, of course, the standard through the purchase.
At the appointed time will be transferred to Istanbul airport to board the return flight.
